Friendly Fire: Developing Feedback Tools to Benefit Student and Teacher

Mandy Moreno

Handout

Note that not every session will have a hand out.

Professional evaluation is an established element of most career fields, including the field of education. Within the teaching realm, evaluation typically comes in the form of administrative observations and feedback. Institutions of higher education often offer opportunities for student feedback in the form of end-of-semester course surveys. Additionally, educators may choose to engage in a variety of self-evaluation practices through their institution or other outside sources. Body Mapping work places particular emphasis on self-reflection for both teacher and student. The purpose of this conference session is to discuss the development and results of a survey designed for a university Body Mapping course. We will discuss the value of and differences between informal feedback and formal feedback; creating surveys for specific purposes; gathering student input in the studio setting versus the classroom setting; and adapting instruction based on that input.
