Changing your Thinking: Understanding and Dismantling Cognitive Distortions
Kristine Hurst-Wajszczuk
Note that not every session will have a hand out.
In 1976, psychologist Aaron Beck first proposed the theory behind cognitive distortions, and in the 1980s, David Burns popularized them with common names. Cognitive distortions are exaggerated, unhelpful thought patterns, and they often interfere with our work in the practice room and on stage. This workshop will explore the most common distortions and provide examples. Attendees will leave with the tools to recognize them and dismantle them, which prove useful in both our own lives and those of our students.
