Kristine Hurst-Wajszczuk

Hailed by the Journal of Singing for the “commendable clarity in her singing as well as rich expressiveness,” soprano Kristine Hurst-Wajszczuk’s world premiere recording of Lori Laitman’s The Secret Exit was released
by Naxos in 2020. Recorded with clarinetist Denise Gainey, Fanfare noted that they “feel each and every nuance.” An American premiere was followed by Belgian, Canadian, and Austrian premieres.

A proponent of living composers since her college days, Kristine created the role of Mary Rose in Jody
Landers’s Now Let Us Praise Famous Men with Opera Birmingham and premiered several new works with the Birmingham Art Music Alliance (BAMA). She performed for Bill Mayer’s 70th birthday concert in Carnegie’s Weill Recital Hall as Madeline in the composer’s The Eve of St. Agnes. Equally devoted to early music, her first CD, Dowland Lute Songs, was released by Centaur in 2008, and she has sung leading roles with Bourbon Baroque and the Amherst Early Music Festival.

Kristine’s multi-pronged approach to teaching expressive, physically compelling performance is informed by
certifications as a mindfulness meditation teacher through the Mindfulness Institute for Emerging Adults and as a personal trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. Twenty years of research into
performance anxiety management has allowed her to help students overcome stage fright, reclaim joy in
music-making, and claim personal power onstage. Having studied the Alexander Technique since 1995, she
added Licensure through the Association of Body Mapping Educators in 2024. Learn more at
