Deirdre Welborn

Deirdre Welborn has enjoyed a diverse musical career as a performer, music educator, voice teacher, and church musician. She is a Tenured Associate Professor of Music at The South Carolina School of the Arts at Anderson University. She teaches applied voice in all majors including Classical Vocal Performance, Worship, Commercial Music, and Musical Theater. She also teaches vocal pedagogy, vocal diction, and musicians wellness. As a crossover soprano, she enjoys performing as often as possible in solo classical recitals, oratorio, cabaret and in musical theater and jazz.

She is passionate about vocal health and considers herself to be a missionary to performers and music teachers, helping them to find their free, authentic voice and avoid injury. She presents workshops and master classes on vocal pedagogy and vocal health in schools, community theater, and in churches for choirs and worship teams. She is a Licensed Body Mapping Educator and active Member of the Association for Body Mapping Education.

Welborn’s voice students from her collegiate and private studio have consistently earned honors at the state, regional and national level at the National Association of Teachers of Singing Auditions (NATS) in classical, music theater, and commercial music categories. She has been an active member since 1993, and has served as President, Vice-President, and District Governor of the SC Chapter. She is also a member of ACDA.

When she is not teaching, singing, or talking about vocal pedagogy, she enjoys traveling, gardening, weightlifting, and spending time with her family and her dog, Melody.
